Dr Eddy K. M. Chong is Associate Professor at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. A music theorist by training, he has been involved in music theory teaching and, more generally, music teacher education for more than two decades. Over the years, he has developed a music theory curriculum for the Singapore context to embrace theoretical understanding of Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and Malay music in more authentic ways, and increasingly putting these understandings on par with the conventional Euro-centric one. More recently, he has broadened his purview to embrace pop, jazz and electronic music genres, and continues to reimagine and transform his music theory curriculum to be relevant to today’s Singapore’s music landscape and beyond.
