About the “Forum for Young Composers”

Under the music director, Clarence Tan and composer-mentor, Robert Casteels, 14 young composers of age ranging from 10- to 20 went through a 9-month creative period of writing a new piece of composition for mixed ensemble of Chinese flute, Gambus, Violin, Cello and Clarinet. The forum started off with a ‘Meet-the-Musicians’ session where the musicians introduced their instruments on the 17 January 2016. The young composers then went off to compose their piece in the following months. The first reading session happened on the 17 April where the composers received input and advice from the musicians and composer-mentor. Between this session and the next rehearsal on the 9 June 2016, the composers have the chance to revise their piece. The highlight is the final concert scheduled on the 12 June 2016.

The young composers are Alysia Lim, Avik Chari, David Lan Yiduo, Toh Yan Ee, Natasha Ureyang, Ong Lin Wei, Zanjia, Wang Du Yu, William Halim, Abbi Chow, Shayna Toh, Kuan Jing Xuan, Christie Chong, and Lim Han Quan.
