ABOUT THE EVENT

An illustrated survey of Montague’s compositions and international collaborations in a variety of contemporary performance fields: his musical compositions range from large symphonic works (performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic, Royal Ballet, The National Symphony Orchestra [Washington, DC] and others), to chamber and solo works (played by The Hilliard Ensemble, Evelyn Glennie, Stephen Kovacevich, Marc André Hamelin, etc.) as well as dance, ballet, music theatre, electronic and site specific installations including a 16 channel sound environment for Maurice Agis’s giant (250 x 250 foot), inflatable sculpture, Dreamspace.

The talk is illustrated with short recorded excerpts of music examples, slides, and live performance.

ABOUT STEPHEN MONTAGUE

Stephen Montague (b 1943 NY) is an Anglo-American composer born and raised in the USA but living in Europe first as a Fulbright Scholar in Warsaw, Poland, 1972-74 then based in London where he works as a freelance composer, pianist and conductor. His works have been performed world-wide and include numerous important commissions such as the BBC Proms (Royal Albert Hall, London), Warsaw Autumn Festival, Paris Autumn Festival, Bang on a Can (NYC) and many others. Southern Lament, a CD of his piano works won the International Piano Magazine’s “Best Recording of Contemporary Piano Music Award”.
