ABOUT THE EVENT

Revelations and Angels is an audio-visual performative installation, which frames the conventional recital in the form of an experience. The work seeks to explore the relationship between man and his creator in two segments: an installation, which inhabits the space to create sensory experiences both in the day and evening, and an evening performance (alongside the installation). The performance features compositions by Singaporean composer Chen Zhangyi and J. S. Bach, with sonic reflections by Mervin.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

Phoon Yu is an organist and composer currently studying at The Juilliard School as a doctoral candidate. Previously, he did his Masters of Music in Organ Performance at the Peabody Institute and his Bachelors of Music in Composition at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. He has performed in Singapore, the United States, and the Netherlands, with performances at the Victoria Concert Hall. His compositions and arrangements have also been premiered in Singapore, the United States, and China. For his achievements, Phoon was awarded the Bruce R. Eicher Prize in Peabody Institute on completion of his degree.

Mervin Wong is a sonic alchemist who creates music and sculpts sound, producing and composing bespoke music for film, media, installations, as well as collaborations with performing and visual artists. 2018 marked the debut of his solo project theemptybluesky with the full length album Aphelion. Mervin also has a hand in a wide range of multidisciplinary collaborations that allow him to venture and explore beyond the realm of sound into film, multimedia-visuals, installations, projection mapping, and production design.
