Age of Revelation<\/strong><\/em> views the idea of Kali Yuga, which takes its name from Sanskrit scripture and the Mahabharata, meaning \u201cthe age of vice\u201d, a variant view from Zen Buddhism\u2019s perspective of the end of an era, Dharma.<\/p>\nThis is detailed by a reimagined narrative of Cain, a sculptor, whose encounter with a group of primates inspire his obsession to create their image out of clay. Years later, these primates evolved into the modern man and integrated into contemporary society. Cain, now older, fraught from his fruitless quest, finds an image of the original primate that is now mass-produced within a factory through cutting edge technology of the times. Denoting a new world order, resulting in impending destruction.<\/p>\n
At its core, the film is an interdisciplinary exploration of man\u2019s fraught relationship with nature and technology in the 21st century. The work details the distancing between human and nature, human and God(s). It also highlights corrupt powers and external forces that inform people, their actions, and the environment that surrounds them. Only in love and light will peace be realised, even without order.<\/p>\n
The Age of Revelation is a sound-film collaboration between SAtheCollective<\/strong> and filmmaker LIAO Jiekai<\/strong> as part of an artist commission by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre<\/strong>. It features choreography by performance artist Effendy IBRAHIM<\/strong> and participation by local performers and dance artists as the cast. The work was originally commissioned as a live performance of an original score by SA<\/strong> and has now been adapted into a multidisciplinary film due to the COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\nThe film is produced by P\u014dtocol, a production company, who has produced notable audiovisual works such as The Wandering<\/em> by YEO Siew Hua and Russell MORTON (for SIFA v2.020), A Love Unknown<\/em> by John CLANG (IFF Rotterdam 2020), 5 Rehearsals of a Wedding<\/em> by Kray CHEN (for Singapore Art Week 2019), A Yellow Bird<\/em> by K. RAJAGOPAL (Cannes Critics\u2019 Week 2016), The Scene at the Train Station<\/em> by BOO Junfeng (for Pearl Lam Galleries, 2016) and To The Eastward (The Lines Divide)<\/em> by Kent CHAN (Busan Biennale 2014).<\/p>\nThis sound-film will be conducted in English and Mandarin.<\/p>\n
