Venue TBA<\/strong> The Composers Society of Singapore (CSS) will be hosting a first session of Say Say Borak, a monthly gathering of artists of diverse disciplines who view an engagement with sound (however interpreted!) as integral to their artistic praxis. These sessions seek to build a community of artists seeking inspirations to come together in a cozy space to freely exchange ideas and practices.<\/p>\n The first session on 7 Dec 19 (Sa) 3-5 PM will focus on listening: How do each of us listen? How might the different ways that we listen offer us possibilities for deeper engagement and cross-pollination of artistic ideas? Who is listening to us?<\/p>\n Come with a sound or two, a piece of poetry, or insights into the intricacies of postcolonial theory, if that’s your thing! We look forward to hearing from – and listening to – YOU!<\/p>\n For this inaugural session, we have invited the following artists:<\/p>\n Li Churen is an award-winning pianist and artistic researcher who has experimented increasingly with combining musical genres, as well as reconsidering performance practices in the programming of her concerts.<\/p>\n Joseph Tham is a writer, historian and educator. He was a record shop owner, event organiser and sound artist. Some of the areas which he is currently researching in are: sound art, avantgarde practices and histories as well as regional alternative music scenes.<\/p>\n Alicia de Silva is a composer and educator with a keen interest in multi\/interdisciplinary collaborations. Her interest in discovering the significance and context of music and sounds of various cultures also informs her practice.<\/p>\n Hoh Chung Shih is a composer, guqin player, sound artist, and educator, and am fascinated with cultural practices.<\/p>\n —<\/p>\n Registration is now closed.
