The Composers Society of Singapore (CSS) has received a call for scores from PARMA Recordings (NH, USA). From the organisers:<\/p>\n

Did you have a performance cancelled this past year? PARMA would like to help via our next Call for Scores with no submission or selection fees.<\/p>\n

While 2020 has come and gone, rather than forgetting it ever happened we remain imbued with a lasting appreciation for the new projects, new connections, and new music we were able to create together in spite of the hardships. This new year brings ongoing challenges, but we continue to look for ways big and small to help members of our community to bounce back.<\/p>\n

Among these efforts, we are pleased to present our first Call for Scores of 2021 for solo violin, to be performed by Concertmaster of the Subotica Philharmonic Pal \u00c5\u00bdiga. Special consideration will be given to pieces or composers with unrealized premieres or concerts within the last year.<\/p>\n

Submitted pieces should be up to around 10 minutes in duration and written for solo violin, unaccompanied. The winning piece will be performed in a virtual concert, featured and promoted on the PARMA Live Stage, and available for archival viewing online following the event.<\/p>\n

Guidelines<\/h4>\n

There is no fee required to submit.<\/p>\n

The performance of one selected work, up to 10 minutes in duration, will be fully subsidized by PARMA Recordings.<\/p>\n

Submissions for this Call for Scores are anonymous; we request that composers replace or remove directly identifying information from their submission files and notes with the exception of the name and contact fields within the submission form itself. Submitted score files with names will be disqualified.<\/p>\n

How to Apply<\/h4>\n

Please submit PDF scores and corresponding MIDI renderings or live recordings via our submission form.<\/p>\n

We will work with the performer and our Sessions, Audio, and A&amp;R Teams to select pieces that could fit this open project. Should your music be selected, we will reach out to you with more information on scheduling and other details as applicable.<\/p>\n

About Pal \u00c5\u00bdiga<\/h4>\n

Serbian violinist Pal \u00c5\u00bdiga studied at the High School of Music in Subotica, in the class of Prof. Pekar Tibor. At age 14, \u00c5\u00bdiga joined the Subotica Philharmonic Orchestra as a second violinist. Shortly after joining, he founded a trio which won numerous awards in the country and abroad.<\/p>\n

After graduating from the High School of Music, \u00c5\u00bdiga studied at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in the class of Prof. Irina Jasvili, former student of famous Moscow violinist David Oistrakh. During his studies, \u00c5\u00bdiga was a member of the quartet that brought numerous awards, performed with the Novi Sad Opera, and joined the Vojvodina Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>\n

After completing his studies, \u00c5\u00bdiga returned to his hometown of Subotica, and in 2005 he began work at the Music School in Subotica, where he became the head of the department.<\/p>\n

In 2006 \u00c5\u00bdiga became the deputy concertmaster of the Subotica Philharmonic, and in 2008 after the 100th anniversary of the Subotica Philharmonic\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s founding, he was promoted to the concertmaster of the orchestra.<\/p>\n

In 2017, \u00c5\u00bdiga became the music director of the Subotica Philharmonic. Since his appointment, the Subotica Philharmonic has performed the works of composer greats such as Rimsky Korsakov (Scheherazade), Beethoven (Violin Concerto), and Bach (Passion for John), as well as organizing countless humanitarian concerts.<\/p>\n
