Through videos, seminars and interviews, the Composers Society of Singapore promotes local composers and showcase their music to the wider public.
Overview of Projects

Singapore Composers Festival
A festival featuring talks and workshops relating to composition, and concerts featuring pieces composed by Singapore composers. The 2024 festival featured talks by two of our own CSS members, two concerts showcasing works by our own local talents, and a cross-country collaboration with the Malaysia Composers Collective.

Young Composers Forum
A mentorship programme for young composers (under 21) considering a career in composition. Under the mentorship of professional CSS members, participants undergo a six-month creative period, culminating in a final concert. The second edition of the Young Composers Forum took place in 2023.

Composer of the Month
A monthly series which showcases the lives and works of living Singapore composers. This is conducted through the form of written and video interviews which are featured on our various social media platforms.

CSS Reviews
CSS Reviews is a CSS writing initiative, providing reviews of concerts and events featuring new music, as well as “what-to-expect” guides for audience members who are interested in attending these events but feel daunted by new music!

CSS Score Follower
Every month, we post a video on our YouTube channel of a performance of a work by one of our members, with the score overlaid so that viewers can follow along. Our goal for this project is to give our members more exposition, bringing Singaporean music to a wider audience, and also to serve as an archival of our Singapore compositions.
Follow our specially curated playlist of score follower videos of works by Singaporean composers!

CSS Presents
A series of workshops conducted by CSS members on topics relating to composition. These workshops serve as a platform for CSS members to share their expertise in various areas with each other and with members of the public.

31st ACL Festival
The 31st Asian Composers League Festival was hosted in Singapore in 2013 by the Composers Society of Singapore. The festival was organised in conjunction with other major music organisations and featured eight concerts and one symposium.

CSS Showcases SG New Music Talents
A digital concert programme showcasing works & ideas for new music by Singaporean composers, produced under support of the National Arts Council’s Digital Presentation Grant (DPG) during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Say Say Borak
Our series of musical discussion-seminars for the wider Singapore public. Stay tuned for the session in May 2023!

Composing Monumentality
This project is a collaboration with the Composers Society of Singapore to pay homage to pioneer composers. Through a series of online lecture-seminars, Composing Monumentality chronicles the major accomplishments of pioneer composers after Singapore’s independence towards the building of a canon or standard repertory.
We hope to raise awareness of their historical achievements for the younger generation of Singaporeans through these public forums. Researchers will study the phenomenon of artistic and musical monumentality in our nation-state.

Broadcast
Through online interviews with CSS Member Composers, we aim to invite composers to share their working processes, extra-musical interests and inspirations, perspectives on music and composition, and life as a composer

Local & International Collaborations
Over the years, the Composers Society of Singapore has collaborated with a number of organizations in order to promote Singapore new music and new music composers locally and internationally.
