Call for Scores: Voxnova Italia for Contemporanea Monferrato festival

Voxnova Italia, an internationally renowned vocal ensemble directed by Nicholas Isherwood, is pleased to announce an opportunity for emerging and established composers: a CALL FOR SCORES for the third edition of the Contemporanea Monferrato festival. The ensemble, specialized in the repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries, will be in artistic residence in the enchanting hills of Monferrato during the third week of September 2024.

The CALL FOR SCORES is open to compositions for vocal quartet (SSBB) or any variations thereof: solo, duo, trio. The works must have a maximum duration of 20 minutes and can be designed for outdoor performances without amplification, or for indoor performances without amplification for the singers, but with possible use of electronics (two stereo channels). The use of small percussion instruments or small instruments provided by the composers and played by the singers is allowed

The theme of the compositions is the exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, focusing particularly on the neural connections of the human mind and the interconnections in the plant world. An important aspect is the inclusion of the sounds of Monferrato in the compositional projects. The soundscape of the vineyard-covered hills, the reverberations of the infernot, the sounds of crickets and cicadas, are all examples of compositional elements on which to structure new compositions.

Interested composers must submit their preliminary project by August 4, 2024, including:

  • Written presentation: provisional title, abstract, and brief description of the work (a single PDF)

  • Two scores in PDF format, for any ensemble, as an example of their compositional activity

  • Artistic CV

Final scores must be submitted by Monday, September 2, 2024. Five works will be selected to be performed by the ensemble during the Festival concerts. Voxnova Italia reserves the right to perform other scores not selected for the Festival in future concerts, with prior communication to the composers.
