[CANCELLED] ACL 2020 Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand

Owing to the global COVID-19 situation, the organisers of the ISCM 2020 and ACL 2020 festivals have decided to cancel them. They will now most likely be held in 2022. We are really sorry. More info

The Asian Composers League (ACL) will be holding ACL 2020 festival in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 28 April 2020 – 2 May 2020 (Tu-Sa). This is an important event for all ACL members.

The ACL 2020 Festival will overlap with the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) World New Music Days, which begins in Auckland on 21 April 2020.

For ACL festivals, member organisations (e.g. Composers Society of Singapore) will submit works by composers to the organisers, who will then select the pieces to be performed. An exception applies to the Young Composers Competition, in which each member organisation nominates one piece to be performed for the festival, and the winner of the Young Composers Competition will be decided there.

The organisers of ACL 2020, the Composers Association of New Zealand (CANZ), have selected the following works by Singapore composers to be performed for the festival. They are:

  • CHUA Jon Lin – Huis Clos

  • PerMagnus LINDBORG – Graviton Dance

  • Bertram WEE – lionheart

In addition, the Composers Society of Singapore (CSS) has nominated the following work, which will represent Singapore for the ACL 2020 Young Composers Competition:

  • LEE Jia Yi – susurrus

Congratulations to these composers!
