Forum Series: A Science & Symphony Tour

Steven Baxter Recital Studio Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music 27 Aug 2019 (Tu) 5:30 PM

Dr. José Francisco Salgado is an Emmy-nominated astronomer, experimental photographer, visual artist, and public speaker who creates multimedia works that communicate science in engaging ways. As the co-founder of KV 265, a non-profit science and arts education organization, Dr. Salgado collaborates with orchestras, composers, and musicians to present films that provoke curiosity and a sense of wonder about the Earth and the Universe.

In this multimedia presentation Dr. Salgado will talk about the science behind his Science & Symphony films and the creative process involved in making them. This includes photographing natural phenomena around the world such as the lunar tides and the aurora borealis. He will use excerpts from these films to take us on an awe-inspiring virtual tour. We will travel from the subarctic North to the South Pole and from Earth’s orbit to galaxies far away while learning about these fantastic places.

Dr. Salgado encourages students to think in multidisciplinary ways and to consider following careers in the fields presented (eg, science, music, education, filmmaking, photography).
