Spectrum Platform: Contemporary Viola: When Every Colour Illuminates by Christoven Tan

Contemporary artist and performer Christoven Tan will present a selection of his compositions that explore ceremonies, rituals and celebrations, alongside Luciano Berio’s Sequenza VI on the viola. Composed in 1967, Sequenza VI is a compositional love-letter written from the composer to the repertoire.


About Christoven Tan


Singapore violist Christoven Tan is a contemporary artist with a passion for redefining the boundaries of viola performance. He relies heavily on engaging contemporary practices and methodologies in Western classical music and is constantly looking to try out new works and ideas. Tan actively performs internationally in solos, ensembles and orchestras, in cities as varied as London, Lithuania, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Spain and Singapore.


He recently served as artist-in-residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2018, exploring definitions of listening and materiality. Tan has also commissioned works from composers Siting Jiang, Goh Toh Chai, Alicia Joyce de Silva and Kelly Tang.


Christoven Tan is a graduate from the Royal Academy of Music and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and is a recipient of the Trailblazer Foundation.
