Spectrum Platform: Pia-NO by B-L Duo

4 Feb 2021 (Th) Esplanade Concourse 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM 30 min ea

“Performers should maintain at least a one-metre safe distance from others, although transient contact between performers during a performance is acceptable.”

As the National Arts Council’s safe management measures prevent them from their usual drill of playing piano duets together on a single piano, the B-L Duo, comprising CSS Full Member Bertram WEE and Lynette YEO, will perform this programme without touching a piano—instead playing electric keyboards, melodicas and even trying to sing.

Look out for works including Weston OLENCKI’s for melodicas, Simon STEEN-ANDERSEN’s MONO and Piyawat LOUILLARPPRASERT’s Clocks and Thugs.

About B-L Duo

Hailed by The Straits Times as “two truly virtuoso players (who perform) death-defying pianistic feats in tandem,” Bertram WEE and Lynette YEO make up the B-L Duo, which is on a mission to play the creepiest and craziest music they can get their hands on. The duo is driven by the belief that much of the music outside the usual canon (especially stuff on the fringe of “polite” taste) has the potential to create meaningful musical experiences.

Advocates of performing obscure music and contemporary works, they have worked with world-renowned composers as stylistically diverse as David LANG and Michael FINNISSY. B-L Duo have also given the premieres of several pieces written for them—among these, works by fiercely original young composers like Nathanael GUBLER, Amy BRYCE and Ray LEUNG.

The B-L Duo were winners of the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League Competition (Ensemble Category) in 2017.
