Founded in 2007 by a group of local composers, the Composers Society of Singapore (CSS) is a non-profit that exists to uphold the interests of Singapore composers, foster creation of new music, and promote interest in Singapore’s new music scene both locally and abroad. Through the work that we do:
We develop local composers by offering opportunities for professional development and serving as a meeting point for creative exchange.
We platform the works of Singapore composers by creating opportunities for them to present their works locally and abroad through festivals, concerts, and other music events, and;
We reach the public to build awareness of local composers and their music through digital initiatives that archive and pay tribute to the works and lives of Singapore composers

Development Programmes
Young Composers Forum
A mentorship programme for young composers. Participants will be guided through a 6-month creative period, writing and workshopping new pieces under the tutelage of senior composer mentors, to be premiered by the year’s ensemble in residence at the Singapore Composers Festival.
CSS Composition Prize
A biennial competition featuring a different theme and partner each time. The ongoing 2025 Giam-Lim Composition Prize is jointly organised by the award-winning TENG company seeking entries under the theme of Chinese-Western fusion.
Our Workshops
These include CSS Composer Lab, a workshop series for Singapore composers to try out and get feedback on works with visiting guest performers, and CSS Connects, a series of workshops conducted by CSS members or guest composers to share their compositional expertise with each other and the public.
Platform Programmes
Singapore Composers Festival
A celebration of Singapore composers and regional new music. Consisting of a vivid line-up of workshops and performances, the opening concert typically premieres works from the Young Composers Forum, while the closing concert draws together members of our society with a regional composers collective.
Asian Composers League Festival & Conference
Last hosted in Singapore for its 31st edition, composers from the ACL’s 14 member states flew to Singapore for the three-day festival, which featured a symposium and eight concerts organized in collaboration with Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Philharmonic Winds, and other prominent music groups.
Feature Concerts
Through our festivals and our feature concerts, we showcase the colorful diversity of local new music, foster cultural exchange, and provide a platform for contemporary composers to showcase their work, connect with other composers, and engage new audiences.
Outreach Programmes
Composer of the Month
A monthly interview series showcasing the lives and works of living Singapore composers through video and transcribed interviews hosted on our YouTube channel and the Musings section of our blog.
Score Follower Videos
A bimonthly video series hosted on our YouTube channel that digitalises the compositions of living Singapore composers by presenting recordings of their work with the score overlaid so viewers can follow along.
CSS Reviews
A writing initiative hosted on the Musings section of our blog providing reviews of concerts and events featuring new music, as well as “what-to-expect” guides for those who may be interested in attending but feel daunted by new music!
