Young Composers Forum
In 2016, the Composers Society of Singapore launched its first edition of the Young Composers Forum (YCF), a mentorship programme for aspiring and emerging young composers who are considering a career in composition. Riding on the success of the first YCF, a subsequent edition was launched in 2023, and a third edition is currently underway in 2025.
As part of the programme, aspiring young composers are guided through a 6-month creative period where they will write and workshop a new piece for the YCF ensemble-in-residence under the tutelage of senior CSS composer mentors. The forum will consist of meet-the-musicians sessions, workshops, and regular consultation with the mentors, culminating in a final concert, where the works written during the programme will be premiered.
Through this programme, CSS hopes to assist young composers in bridging the gap between theory and practice, granting them the opportunity to work with real musicians in a professional setting, while also getting to know the creative process of a professional composer mentor on a deeper level. They will also get to workshop and premiere pieces that will serve as portfolio pieces as they move on to pursue further studies or professional work.
