About the Young Composers Forum

The CSS Young Composers Forum is a mentorship programme for aspiring and emerging young composers. Participating young composers undergo a 6-month creative period consisting of meet-the-musicians sessions, workshops, and regular consultation with the mentors, each writing a piece for the edition’s ensemble-in-residence, which will be premiered in a final concert at the bi-annual Singapore Composers Festival.

Through the programme, we hope to assist young composers in bridging the gap between theory and practice, granting them the opportunity to work with real musicians in a professional setting, while also getting to know the creative process of a professional composer mentor on a deeper level. They will also get to workshop and premiere pieces that will serve as portfolio pieces as they move on to pursue further studies or professional work.
