This article, written by CSS member Chua Jon Lin on composing for Art Fission’s Amazing Beasts & Botanicals《神木灵兽》, was published in Lianhe Zaobao’s Wednesday edition.

Premiering on 26 and 27 July at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center, the production explored the mysteries of the unearthed cultural relics of Sanxingdui through modern dance and modern music. Jon Lin’s article touches on the non-conventional compositional approach used in Amazing Beasts & Botanicals, in which music and choreography were developed parallel to each other, and where sections were left open for improvisation by musicians and dancers.

For those who missed the production, Joel Tan also wrote a preview describing the performance for our CSS Reviews series! Read it here.
