The Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University (Syracuse, NY, USA) will host a webinar and virtual concert on 12 Sep 2020 (Sa), with the aim of fostering awareness of and appreciation for contemporary organ music. The events are geared to composers at any career stage and experience level who wish to learn more about writing for the organ, and organists who are interested in the compositional process. Rules:
- Composers are asked to fill out an application form found here.
- Composers must submit two compositions via email to Natalie Draper (nrdraper@syr.edu) by 15 Jul 2020 (W)
- The first composition should be representative of the composer’s best work.
- The second composition should be either an unpublished work or a work in progress specifically for organ. [This organ piece will be considered for the workshop.]
- General considerations:
- Scores should be submitted as PDF files.
- Recordings should be submitted either as a link to an online recording or as a link to a Dropbox/Google Drive file. Recordings are encouraged, but certainly not necessary for the unpublished work or work-in-progress for organ.
- Please include your name on both submissions.
- All composers of any level/background/identity are encouraged to apply, but preference will be given to those who would benefit most from this type of introductory workshop (in other words, seasoned organ composers are unlikely to be a strong fit).
This application is free! Composers will be notified by 1 Aug 2020 (Sa) regarding their participation in the workshop. Composers whose work is selected for the workshop will be expected to participate in the virtual session on 12 Sep 2020 (Sa).
A panel of adjudicators will choose up to four works to be featured in the reading session. Works will be matched with performers and will be pre-recorded for use in the session.
