The Hong Kong New Music Ensemble (HKNME) just announced a call for scores for solo instruments and chamber works, with the aim to connect with composers of the younger generation. The submitted works will be performed by the Ensemble’s current intern musicians and core musician line-up. An equal number of solo works and chamber works will be selected, and the compositions will be recorded and showcased through the HKNME’s digital platforms throughout the 2020-21 season. Selected composers will work with HKNME musicians in a workshop setting (virtually or in person, if based in Hong Kong), and will receive a copy of the audio recording of their work.
Age Limit
Composers of any nationality aged 37 or under (as of 31 October 2020) are invited to submit works.
Instrumentation
Solo works should be written for one solo instrument from the following list:
- Clarinet (Bb, A, Bass)
- Trumpet (Bb, C, Eb, piccolo, baroque trumpet)
- Piano
- Viola
These works will be performed by musicians supported by the Artistic Internship Scheme (supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council):
- Linus Fung (clarinet)
- Shelley Ng (piano)
- Edwin Wong (trumpet)
- Rebecca Tang (viola)
Smaller chamber works (up to 4 players) may be submitted for consideration, but the works must involve at least one of the HKNME’s intern musicians (above), and be composed for any combination of up to 4 players from the following instrumentation:
- Flute (C, alto, piccolo)
- Clarinet (Bb, A, Bass)
- Trumpet (Bb, C, Eb, piccolo, baroque trumpet)
- Bassoon
- Piano
- Violin
- Viola (1 or 2 players)
Duration
Submitted works should last maximum 5 minutes.
