Call for Scores: International Microtonal Guitar Competition (TR)

There is a call for scores for the International Microtonal Guitar Competition by İTÜ Türk Musikisi Devlet Konservatuarı (Istanbul, Turkey).

There are two categories:

  • Traditional music arrangements for solo microtonal classical guitar
  • Microtonal guitar compositions for solo microtonal classical guitar

Please send your video, a photo showing your guitar’s fretboard, the score of your arrangement or composition and the recording of the traditional music you take as a reference (1st category). to microtonalguitarist@gmail.com by 28 May 2021.

Instructions about the First CategoryArrangements will be made for solo classical microtonal guitar. Besides, different guitar types such as acoustic, electric, bass guitar are not included in the competition. Arrangements shall be made only for nylon stringed classical guitar.

The arrangements that are sent to the jury must be unpublished and unpremiered. Please don’t share any part of the arrangements through social media before the announcement of winners.

Types of microtonal guitars that the arrangements will be made for are as follows:

  • Adjustable classical microtonal guitars
  • Fixed-fretted classical microtonal guitars
  • Converting the standard classical guitar to microtonal guitar by adding additional frets
  • Converting the standard classical guitar to microtonal guitar by tuning its strings into microtones

Fretless guitar is not included in the competition. This is because fretless guitar’s timbre is different than the classical guitar. Above mentioned guitar types are all classical guitars besides being microtonal.

Arrangements can include a free, improvisatory opening section. You can also apply by using a Theme and Variations form.

The prizes will only be given to the arranger or arrangers.

Video- Sound Quality Since the performance videos of the winning arrangements/compositions will be shared on YouTube, video quality should be minimum 720p HD and sound should be recorded by a professional microphone.

1st Category

  • 1st Prize: 4000 TL
  • 2nd Prize: 3000 TL
  • 3rd Prize: 2000 TL

2nd Category

  • 1st Prize: 4000 TL
  • 2nd Prize: 3000 TL
  • 3rd Prize: 2000 TL

The prize is only given to the arranger or arrangers for the first category. The prize is given to the composer in the second category.Note: Any possible taxes or bank transfer costs will be deducted from the prize amount.
